<br />A-326 <br /> <br />Number: <br />Date Adopted: <br />Date Revised: <br /> <br />2023 <br />March 14, 2000 <br /> <br />Title: NAMING FACILITIES AND FIELDS <br /> <br />1.0 Purpose <br /> <br />1.1 To contribute to community identification and solidarity as well as to honor <br />prominent citizens and educators, the School Board shall name facilities and <br />fields. <br /> <br />2.0 SCHOOLS <br /> <br />2.1 While the authority and responsibility for naming schools, fields and school <br />areas rests with the School Board, prior to naming a school, the School Board <br />shall consult with the representatives of local units of government and the <br />citizens in the school attendance area. If possible, students who could attend <br />the school will be asked for suggestions and ideas. <br /> <br />3.0 SCHOOL AREAS (auditoriums, nature areas) AND FIELDS <br /> <br />3.1 Prior to naming school areas or fields, the School shall convene an athletic or <br />activity ad hoc advisory committee to consider names, either put forward or <br />raised by the committee, and makes a recommendation to the School Board. <br /> <br />3.2 The Athletic or Activity committee shall recommend how and where the name <br />will be displayed. <br /> <br />4.0 CRITERIA <br /> <br />4.1 Prior to naming a school or soliciting names, the School Board will establish <br />criteria to be used in the selection process. The criteria mayor may not be <br />ranked but will most likely include consideration for; a) citizens who have <br />gained local or national prominence; b) the historic or current name of the <br />geographic area; and, c) current or former employees who have served with <br />distinction. <br />
