Request for Action <br /> <br />To Item Number <br />Mayor and City Council 10.1 <br />Agenda Section Meeting Date <br />Prepared by <br />September 6, 2016 <br />Work Session <br />Michael Hecker, Parks and Recreation Director <br />Item Description <br />Reviewed by <br />Park Projects for Referendum <br />Cal Portner, City Administrator <br />Reviewed by <br /> <br /> <br />Action Requested <br />Discussion. <br /> <br />Background/Discussion <br />The City Council directed that the Parks and Recretion Commission narrow a list of recommended park <br />projects to $2 million for a referendum. The Comission reviewed the list of projects at the August 10 <br />meeting and recommends the following with a total amount not to exceed $2 million: <br /> SkatePark ($350,000) <br /> Splash Pad ($650,000) <br /> Orono Parking Lot ($400,000) <br /> Orono Restrooms ($250,000) <br /> YAC Restrooms ($250,000) <br /> Hillside Trail Redevelopment ($100,000) <br /> <br />The Parks and Recreation Commission discussed how these projects would nearly complete the master <br />plan for Orono Park. They also felt that the site improvements would enhance the park with the <br />proposed Community Center to be located next to the park. <br /> <br />Mayor John Dietz requested that the park projects be discussed at a work session on September 6, 2016. <br />Staff recommends park projects prposed in a referenduem should appeal to a broad base of citizens. <br />Restrooms and trails were viewed as a priority by residents in the Parks and Recreation Master Plan. <br /> <br />The park projects approved by City Council will be included in the marketing literature that staff is <br />preparing for the community center/park projects referendum. <br /> <br />Financial Impact <br />$ 2,000,000 inclusion into the Community Center Referendum. <br /> <br />Attachments <br /> Orono Park Plan Master Plan Concept <br /> <br />
