Request for Action <br /> <br />To Item Number <br />Mayor and City Council 8.1 <br />Agenda Section Meeting Date <br />Prepared by <br />September 6, 2016 <br />General Business <br />Michael Hecker, Parks and Recreation Director <br />Item Description <br />Reviewed by <br />Rivers Edge Commons Park Construction Change <br />Cal Portner, City Administrator <br />Orders <br />Reviewed by <br /> <br /> <br />Action Requested <br />Approve, by motion, change order requests for the construction of the Rivers Edge Commons Park <br />Expansion. <br /> <br />Background/Discussion <br />With Rivers Edge Commons Park expansion work beginning, staff has identified opportunities for <br />additional features to enhance the park beyond the original scope City Council approved. The items <br />include the installation of WiFi, 220v power for cable television, and expanding the primary staircase to 8 <br />feet in width. <br /> <br />The electrical-related features included in Alternate #2 the Council rejected in the construction bids on <br />April 4, 2016, which also included decorative parking lot lighting. The Sherburne-Wright Cable <br />Commission staff is very interested in the 220v power and WiFi to broadcast live from the park. The <br />EDA staff successfully submitted and received funding last November through a Blandin Broadband for <br />WiFi and use of Cable Franchise Fees is proposed to pay for the power upgrade. <br /> <br />Staff also recommends increasing the width of the new west staircase from its original 6.5 feet to 8 feet to <br />provide for a better ailseway for wedding processions. The project contingency fund at this time has <br />sufficient funds for the staircase expansion. <br /> <br />A summary of the recommended change order requests with costs and corresponding funding source is <br />as follows: <br />1. WiFi Equipment and fiberoptics $10,000 Blandin Grant <br />2. WiFi conduit and CAT cabling $2,200 Cable Franchise Fee Fund <br />3. 220v power to pedestal at lower parking lot $3,650 Cable Franchise Fee Fund <br />4. 2-sided 220v cabinet with communications $11,250 Cable Franchise Fee Fund <br />5. 8-ft wide staircase $2,400 Project Contingency <br /> <br />Financial Impact <br />There is no impact to the city General Fund. <br /> <br />Attachments <br /> N/A <br /> <br />
