<br />Open water habitats (90000'S) represents 926 acres (6,8%) of the land cover in the <br />city, The Mississippi River is the defining water open water feature within the City, <br />Important lakes include the impounded Lake Orono (Elk River) and Twin Lakes, All of <br />these water bodies are important resources for the city and should be afforded <br />appropriate safeguards to maintain or improve their quality, <br /> <br />The figure on the following depicts land cover for the City of Elk River at MLCCS - <br />Level 1. A digital version of the land cover data has been provided with the Final <br />Report to City staff in a format that can be used within a geographic information <br />system (GIS) such as ArcView.
