Physically, the gait of the horse stimulates the rider's pelvis
and trunk. This motion simulates a normal human gait, and works
specific muscle groups. Physical benefits can include improved muscle
tone, balance, and posture. Therapeutic riding can also improve motor
development and coordination, as well as overall body awareness.

But riding isn't just for the body -- it's for the brain as well. The chance to
spend time with a horse motivates many of our riders to learn new things.
Our therapists, instructors, and volunteers often include tasks such as
letter recognition and sequencing in riding activities. The opportunity to
give verbal commands to the horse has also inspired some of our riders to
speak for the very first time!

Riding is also for the heart. At High Hopes, riders can experience the
sensation of independent motion -- many for the first time. They gain
confidence in themselves, build relationships with instructors, therapists,
and peers, and take pride in their abilities. At High Hopes, we focus on
what our riders can do -- not on what they can't.

;~l~ :~;~~l~~i~;~:~~~~t:~~;v~~;~~~ :~~:~~~d ~
