EOty1 ,., Request for Action
River
To Item Number
Mayor and City Council 9.7
Agenda Section Meeting Date Prepared by
Work Session April 18,2016 Michael Hecker, Parks and Recreation Director
Item Description Reviewed by
Succession Planning in Park Maintenance Lead Cal Portner, City Administrator
position Reviewed by
Action Requested
Discussion.
Background/Discussion
Park Maintenance Lead Steve Stoffers is expected to publicly announce his retirement. Steve has been
with the city for over 15 years and was the first park maintenance lead hired seven years ago. We plan to
advertise externally and internally for the vacancy once we receive his formal resignation.
Park Maintenance Superintendent Tim Sevcik will be taking an extended absence serving in the National
Guard from June 3 to June 24. We plan to start the recruiting process soon and would like to interview
and have the candidate hired before Tim leaves on June 3.
We are requesting City Council allow an opportunity for the successful candidate to train with the lead
and superintendent before they leave, to ease the succession. The goal is to have the lead in place the
week of June 27.
Financial Impact
The Park Maintenance Budget will have budgeted funds available as a result of temporary division-wide
vacancies.
Attachments
N/A
POWERED 6T
A IR
