Consider Establishment of a Marketing Committee and <br /> Discussion of Marketing Consultant Proposals <br /> Issue <br /> Staff has been working for the past several months on the issue of <br /> putting together an industrial marketing plan, as a high priority issue <br /> identified within the modified strategic plan. Staff has had numerous <br /> meetings with individuals regarding this issue and is now proposing <br /> the following direction/process: <br /> • EDA to form 5-7 member marketing committee — <br /> November 1999 <br /> • Marketing committee to meet and interview potential <br /> consultants — December 1999 <br /> • Marketing committee to make recommendation to EDA <br /> on hiring consulting services —January 2000 <br /> • Work with consultant and marketing committee to <br /> develop plan —February through June 2000 <br /> • • Implement plan —June 2000 —June 2003 <br /> The first step in this process is for the EDA to establish a marketing <br /> committee. Staff and EDA President Pat Dwyer have compiled the <br /> following list of names and calls have been made to these individuals <br /> to ask if they would be willing to commit to several months of work on <br /> a marketing committee. What follows is a list of these individuals and <br /> their response: <br /> • Jim Barthel, Elk River Machine —interested <br /> • Daryl Thompson, EDA representative —interested <br /> • Chris Carlson, Sportech, Inc. —interested <br /> • Gary Santwire, Realtor—interested <br /> • Renee Sande, Chamber VP —interested <br /> Staff feels there is room to add no more than two additional members <br /> to this committee. It is appropriate for the EDA to suggest additional <br /> people for staff to contact regarding their potential interest. <br /> Attached to this memo are two proposals that have been received by <br /> economic development marketing consultants. The purpose for <br /> • attachment of these proposals is for the EDA to review and offer <br /> comments/questions to staff at this meeting. The EDA would be <br /> conducting a preliminary review of the attached proposals and is not <br /> being asked to make a decision at this time. Staff proposes that the <br />
