EDA Agenda Memo
September 13, 1999,Meeting
Page 2
10 • Develop West Business Park 37 votes
• Develop external marketing strategy 26 votes
• Redevelop east Highway 10 corridor 21 votes
• Coordinate transportation options 16 votes
• Redevelop downtown 15 votes
Staff worked this prioritized list into the following Strategic Plan
format:
• Issue No. 1 Grow Industrial Base
Goal: Develop West Business Park
• Issue No. 2 Business Retention and Growth
Goal: Retain and grow existing industrial firms
• Issue No. 3 Marketing Strategy
Goal: Develop a marketing strategy
• Issue No. 4 Develop/Redevelop East Highway 10 and the
CBD Area
Goal: Undertake activities to facilitate development and
redevelopment on east Highway 10 and in the CBD
As you can see, staff took some liberties to construct a format which
touched as many of the priority issues as possible. The one exception
to this was the 6th priority as addressed by the Strategic Plan
Modification Committee, which received 16 votes, which was higher
than the next priority of redeveloping downtown. Staff was unsure
how to incorporated the priority of"coordinate transportation options"
within the context of the four major issues. Staff requests additional
information from the EDA regarding the issue of transportation
options.
The future process involves staff bringing the action plan before the
EDA for final approval in October, and then continuing work on
implementation of the plan.
Recommendation
Staff recommends the EDA make suggestions and modifications to the
proposed draft action plan, and ask staff to bring the modified
Strategic Plan back to the EDA at its meeting in October for final
approval.
