4•Nr,July 1, 2002 <br /> • INITIATIVE <br /> Stephanie Klinzing FOUNDATION <br /> City of Elk River <br /> 13065 Orono Pkwy <br /> PO Box 490 <br /> Elk River, MN 55330-0490 <br /> Dear Mayor Klinzing, <br /> Greetings from the Initiative Foundation!We really appreciate the past financial support of the City of Elk <br /> River and look forward to a continued partnership.As we look forward to celebrating our 16th anniversary <br /> on July 1st we are pleased to announce to you our new five-year strategic plan and focus areas: <br /> • Promote Economic Stability-Sustain an economic environment in Central Minnesota capable <br /> of responding to business opportunities affording wealth creation, livable wage jobs and <br /> diversification of the economic base. <br /> • Increase Utilization of Technology- Facilitate increased utilization of technology for <br /> community and economic development. <br /> • Preserve Space, Place and Resources- Encourage efforts that follow principles of sustainable <br /> development in order to preserve open space, a sense of place, and natural resources. <br /> • Embrace Diversity/Reduce Prejudice- Initiate, support and promote efforts that reduce <br /> prejudice(across age, class culture and ability level) by embracing diversity as an asset. <br /> • Children,Youth and Families - Initiate, support and promote efforts that encourage <br /> • development of hltcd . <br /> • Build Capacity of eaNonprofit <br /> hyhildren Organizationsanfamilies - Enhance and empower nonprofit organizations by <br /> helping them improve their internal effectiveness. <br /> We will fulfill these goals through grants to non-profits, business investments, leadership training and <br /> donor services. Since our inception in 1986 we have distributed over$28 million in the region, including <br /> $1,679,625 in Sherburne County. In addition the communities of Elk River, Big Lake and Zimmerman have <br /> participated in our Healthy Communities Partnership Program and Big Lake, Briggs Lake Chain, Lake <br /> Fremont, Lake Orono and Little Elk Lake Improvement in our Healthy Lakes Partnership Program. <br /> In support of our new strategic plan, our lead funding partner,The McKnight Foundation, has awarded <br /> an additional$7.1 million to support our work. This includes a challenge grant to support our general <br /> endowment.We are launching our "Unlock The Potential Campaign" to raise$2.5 million for our <br /> endowment over the next five years. Gifts received between July 1, 2002 and June 30, 2007 will be <br /> matched dollar for dollar by The McKnight Foundation. <br /> • <br />
