As companies advance in lean <br /> manufacturing, they may hold periodic "continuous improvement events." These <br /> meetings involve a few employees in an in-depth examination of a production issue, <br /> which usually results in changes to make the process more efficient. <br /> Advice on lean <br /> The Internet provides a wide variety of sites on lean manufacturing and its benefits. <br /> 0 Here are three worth checking out. <br /> • 360vu- This organization provides workshops and information on all aspects of <br /> lean manufacturing. Go to www.360vu.org, then click on "manufacturing <br /> solutions" and "lean enterprise" for a complete discussion of lean theory and <br /> application. <br /> • Lean Enterprise Institute- Founded by James Womack, one of the top thinkers <br /> on lean practices, the Lean Enterprise Institute provides information and <br /> workshops (www.lean.org). Womack's book, Lean Thinking: Banish Waste and <br /> ys Create Wealth for Your Corporation, provides an overview of lean <br /> manufacturing. <br /> • Society of Manufacturing Engineers- This professional organization has an e- <br /> newsletter devoted to lean manufacturing as well as several books and tapes <br /> on the subject.
