NW, Elk River <br /> <br />Dear Mr. Maurer: <br /> <br />Thank you for dropping off the sketches of the proposed change <br />of Third st. and the staking out you did in our front yard. <br /> <br />Considering all of the issues that would come into play when <br />moving Third st., we wish to inform you that we are not <br />interested in selling any portion of our property or tree for <br />this project. Our reasons are as follows: <br /> <br />1. The healthy oak tree which you indicated would have <br />to be cut down is too important to us. It would be tragic to <br />remove a tree that is at least 100 years old, healthy and <br />valuable for many different reasons. <br /> <br />2. The Nickerson family has been in Elk River since <br />1854 and this is the last piece of property remaining in the <br />family. since the home was constructed in 1910, family <br />members have lived in it and it is very important for us to <br />preserve that. There is absolutely no way we would willingly <br />have half of our front yard lost to a roadway. We would not <br />only lose land but all sense of what privacy is available in <br />the center of town. <br /> <br />3. with the proposed movement of Third street, our <br />driveway would be extremely close to the intersection. As it <br />is now, it is difficult to back onto Gates. with the proposed <br />change, it would be next to impossible and very hazardous. <br /> <br />4. We have been in contact with a real estate <br />specialist. He has looked at the proposed change and has <br />informed us that if the roadway were to be moved and the tree <br />
