Strategic Industrial Marketing Activities Update <br /> August 9,2004 <br /> Page 2 of 3 <br /> • Cymbet <br /> The attached article indicates that Cymbet recently received$10 million in venture capital. <br /> Semi Annual Incubator Report <br /> Incubator consultant Harlan Jacobs will also be in attendance at the September meeting to <br /> provide his semi-annual Incubator report. <br /> I I. Competitive Strategy <br /> The attached article provides details on Cambridge's new industrial park. Cambridge is not <br /> considered a key competitor in the EDA's Strategic Industrial Marketing Plan,however the <br /> plan was completed before the State of MN developed its Job Opportunity Building Zone <br /> (JOBZ) Program. JOBZ zones provide tax exemptions for businesses that create jobs in <br /> economically depressed areas of the state. Cambridge and Sartell are the closest JOBZ zones <br /> to Elk River. <br /> Ill. Key Account/Lead Generation Strategy <br /> In June, staff attended the National Association of Industrial& Office Properties (NAIOP) <br /> 2004 Annual Industrial Market Update event. The attached report includes market <br /> occupancy and rental information in the northwest metro, defined as far as Rogers. <br /> Staff will present the semi-annual inquiry/prospect report at the September meeting. <br /> I V. Promotions &Advertising Strategy <br /> • The advertising schedule is proceeding as planned. Nine of the sixteen scheduled ads have <br /> appeared so far this year in various publications catering to commercial real estate brokers <br /> and manufacturers. <br /> V. Public Relations Strategy <br /> Staff is working with Wolf Marketing&Media and Tammy Miller Design to prepare a direct <br /> mail piece for distribution to a targeted list of manufacturers located within the tri-county <br /> area. The piece will promote the Micro Loan Program and the Technical Assistance & <br /> Operations Consulting Program. The piece is expected to be mailed in September. <br /> Staff continues to maintain the marketing packets as changes occur in the business sites <br /> inventory,list of manufacturers, and business financing options. <br /> Staff submitted articles on Gradient Technology and Orluck Industries to the Economic <br /> Development Association of MN (EDAM) for insertion into the organization's upcoming <br /> newsletter. <br /> VI. Strategic Partnership Strategy <br /> Downtown Revitalization Project <br /> At its June 30t Special Meeting,the HRA adopted a resolution requesting that the City <br /> Council schedule a public hearing on the proposed TIF Plan for the project. Upon the <br /> HRA's request the City Council called for a public hearing on September 20, 2004 to <br /> consider adoption of the TIF Plan. Upon the adoption of the TIF Plan,it is anticipated that <br /> • the HRA will consider a final Development Agreement with MetroPlains in October. <br />
