Howard R. Green Company
June 26, 2001
File: 812420J-0071
Ms. Cathy Mehelich
Director of Economic Development
City of Elk River
13065 Orono Parkway
PO Box 490
Elk River, Minnesota 55330
RE: DOWNTOWN SIDEWALK IMPROVEMENTS
CITY OF ELK RIVER, MINNESOTA
Dear Ms. Mehelich:
Now that the Downtown Sidewalk Improvements Project is substantially complete, we
have put together the final quantities and cost for the project. As you are aware, the
original bid for the improvements from Schmidt Curb Company was $209,943.80. As we
discussed with the Economic Development Authority, we anticipated removing and
replacing more concrete curb and gutter and the 1-foot concrete strip along the buildings
due to the lower than expected bid prices from Schmidt Curb. Based on the final
• quantities, we anticipate that the final construction cost will be $246,664.96.
As you are aware, there are a number of items in this final construction cost that should
be reimbursed by the Elk River Municipal Utilities. They had agreed before the project
was bid to pay for the removal of the sidewalk on the north side of Main Street. This
agreement was in association with the anticipated burying of the underground electrical
cables through the downtown. While working with their Contractor, there were a number
of other items that needed to be removed for the electrical conduits to be placed. These
items were removed and replaced by Schmidt Curb Company, therefore, they show up
in the final construction cost and should be reimbursed by the Elk River Municipal
Utilities or their Contractor. Under a separate letter to Pat Klaers, I detailed these items
out. They amount to $23,279.00.
Hopefully, this letter provides you with the information you need to present to the
Economic Development Authority. If you have any questions or would like further
information, please call.
Sincerely,
Howard R. Green Company
•--X-€44yPifasee/tel,)
Terry J.
