West, Fire Chief (f 4<<1 DATE: October II, 2004 SUBJECT: Request by Fire Department to Purchase Vehicle As approved by the Mayor and City Council along with the Fire Prevention Specialist position includes the purchase of a vehicle to be used for emergency response, equipment, and firefighter transport by the Fire Department and also for use by the Fire Chief. The Fire Chiefs current vehicle is a 2000 Ford Explorer which will be passed on to the person hired as the Fire Prevention Specialist. I have reviewed the State bid package as released by the State of Minnesota in reference to four door, four wheel drive sport utility vehicles. Elk River Ford has received the contract award for four door, four wheel drive Ford Expeditions as a contract vendor for the State of Minnesota. I have reviewed the specifications with Wade Turner, sales representative from Elk River Ford, for the proposed vehicle. The following quotation was obtained: State bid through Elk River Ford 2005 Expedition 4x4, 4-door $24,476.40 The City of Elk River does not pay sales tax on the purchase of this utility vehicle as it will be placed into service as an emergency vehicle for the Fire Department's use. The State of Minnesota allows exemption in sales tax when used as an emergency vehicle. At this time, I would like to accept the quotation of the State bid through Elk River Ford for one 2005 Ford Expedition 4x4, 4-door utility vehicle for the amount of $24,476.40. This is an expenditure approved by the Mayor and City Council with the approved addition of a Fire Prevention Specialist for the Elk River Fire Department. Under the 2005 staff addition requests for a vehicle and equipment, the amount requested was $30,000. The total cost of this project will be: Vehicle Light bar, radio, opticon, siren (combination bid) Lettering $24,476.40 $ 3,400.00 $ 500.00 $28,376.40 Total
