While we've been quiet during the summer months, many projects have been
moving ahead. I thought it would be good to provide you a direct update.
Last spring this taskforce recommended that eliminating the traffic light at 101 /169 /10 would be the most
beneficial to traffic congestion followed by adaptive signal controls. Senator Kiffineyer introduced
legislation for funding of the interchange improvements during the 2014 Legislative Session. It did not make
the bonding bill. However, Corridors of Commerce funding has been reauthorized and the City of Elk River
has made application for this funding. The projects that have been submitted for consideration are:
Complete preliminary design work for interchange improvements at TH10/169/101 to add ramps and
eliminate stop light on TH 101
Complete preliminary design work and right of way acquisition for a future frontage road and
interchange on TH 10/169 at future extension of Twin Lakes Road (south of 167`" Ave)
Design and construction of adaptive signal controls on existing signalized intersection on TH10 and TH
169 in Elk River.
The chamber's transportation task force recommended item #1 and #3 as the most important projects.
Success will come from local support. Stay tune for specific ways you can help support this funding request.
One of the many purposes of this taskforce is to support regional transportation needs. We supported the
Corridor of Commerce funding for 194 expansion as well as TH 10 improvements in Anoka County. Below and
attached is an update from Anoka County and their plans for Highway 10. These projects appear to be
making good progress. I believe projects in Elk River will also move forward with the right cooperative,
Local. support.
Debbi Rydberg, CFM, IOM
Executive Director
Elk River Area Chamber of Commerce
509 Highway 10 1 Elk River, MN I office 763-441-3110
Follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Linkedln
Find us at www.elkriverchamber.org
