HOUSING CHARACTERISTICS <br />American Community Survey <br />The American Community Survey (ACS) is an ongoing statistical <br />U.S. Census Bureau that is sent to approximately 3 million addre <br />gathers data previously contained only in the long form of the decennial census. As a r <br />the survey is ongoing and provides a more up-to-date portrait of demographic, economic, <br />social, and household characteristics every year, not just every <br />highlights data collected between 2009 and 2013. Tables HC-2 to HC-7 show key data for Elk <br />River Elk River. <br /> <br /> <br />Age of Housing Stock <br />The following graph shows the age distribution of the housing st <br />the U.S. Census Bureau and 2013 from the American Community Survey (5-Year). Table HC-2 <br />includes the number of housing units built in Elk River, prior t <br />since. The following are key points derived from Table HC-2. <br /> <br />In total, Elk River is estimated to have nearly 10,000 housing units, of which about 8,415 <br />are owner-occupied and just over 1,300 are renter-occupied. In total, owner-occupied <br />housing units account for about 86.5% of Elk Rivers total housing stock. <br /> <br />The highest number of homes was built during the period from 2009. Overall, <br />roughly 27% of the total housing units were built during this period. Less than 10% of Elk <br />River housing stock was built before 1970.
