J of the J . 1997 \j \ji r r CORPORATE REPORT On the next few pages,you will find profiles of the winning entries in the 1997 Business Plan BUSINESSCompetition.The Business Plan Competition was established by Corporate Report and support- PLAN ed by the sponsors listed below in an effort to encourage,fund,and promote entrepreneurial activ- ities in the state of Minnesota.It is a program that we are extremely proud of and that this year COMPETITION garnered us a"Quality of Life"award from the Minneapolis Chamber of Commerce in the cate- gory of innovative product or service. The 10 finalists for the competition are listed on page 82.Each of these individuals,as part of the competition,had to exercise a 30-minute formal presentation to our panel of judges.Thepre- sentations were excellent and the margins of victory narrow.We encumber the two grand prize winners in one more way.They are asked to write a diary of their experiences as they launch and develop their businesses over the next year,which we will publish each quarter in Ventures.We want our readers to be able to share in the joy and difficulties that always come with a new busi- ness launch.If you have been following our diaries from last year's winners Susan Johnson and Jo Pfeifer,you know that there was no shortage of either emotion for these two driven entrepreneurs.
