RIVERFRONT INITIATIVES <br /> The Mississippi River in Elk River's CBD is an overlooked asset. Work <br /> is currently underway to explore and plan for the construction of a <br /> pathway along the river in the downtown area. If successful, this <br /> pathway may serve many purposes, including: <br /> • Adding to the CBD's character; <br /> • Reinforcing the community's sense of place; <br /> • Creating a place for activity in the CBD; and, <br /> • Establishing the basis for a showpiece in the city's multi-use <br /> trail system. <br /> Issues such as design, cost, phasing, and sources of funding are <br /> • unresolved with this proposed riverfront trail. However, in order to <br /> reinforce the CBD's sense of place for the community and its residents, <br /> a high priority should be placed on this project. <br /> VI. REDEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES <br /> Numerous sites in the CBD and the surrounding area present <br /> themselves as redevelopment opportunities. These sites include: <br /> • Northwest corner of King and Main; <br /> • Southeast corner of Lowell and Main; <br /> • Highway 10 corridor from the Main Street/10 intersection to <br /> the Proctor Avenue and 10 intersection; <br /> • Jackson Avenue - Railroad Drive - 4th Street triangle; <br /> • Southwest corner of Jackson Avenue and School Street; <br /> • Railroad Drive/3rd Street towards Gates Avenue; and, <br /> 410 <br /> • East Main Street. <br />
