Proclamation
Designating November as
Veteran Appreciation Month
WHEREAS, there are approximately 1,500 veterans residing in Elk River, many of whom put
their lives on the line to preserve our freedoms. Our veterans served on the land, at sea, and in the
air. Through each of these challenges, the members of the Army,Navy,Air Force,Marines, and
Coast Guard have protected our country and liberated millions of people around the word from the
threats of tyranny and terror; and
WHEREAS, our proud veterans have also helped to share the American character. They have
given us an extraordinary legacy of patriotism and honor, and their service represents the highest
form of citizenship; and
WHEREAS, according to the US census, less than '/z of 1% of the United States'population have
ever served in the military; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of the contributions our service men and women have made to the
cause of peace and freedom around the world,it is fitting to honor and thank the men and women
who have served in the military for their dedication and service to our country; and
WHEREAS, I urge all residents to recognize the valor and sacrifice of our veterans through
appropriate public ceremonies and private prayers. I encourage educators to invite veterans to teach
our young people about their experiences because by sharing their knowledge on some of the most
proud and dramatic moments in our history, they can help educate and inspire a new generation of
Americans.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I,John J. Dietz,Mayor of Elk River, do
hereby proclaim November as Veteran Appreciation Month in the City of Elk River.
John J. Dietz,Mayor
ATTEST:
Tina Allard, City Clerk
