<br />Request for Action <br /> <br /> <br />To Item Number <br /> <br />Mayor and City Council 4.7 <br />Agenda Section Meeting Date Prepared by <br /> <br />ConsentOctober 5, 2015Cal Portner, City Administrator <br />Item Description Reviewed by <br />Hire Maintenance Mechanic Suzanne Fischer, CODD Director <br />Reviewed by <br />Lauren Wipper, Human Resource Representative <br /> <br />Action Requested <br /> <br />Approve, by motion, the hiring of John Legatt for the position of Maintenance Mechanic. <br /> <br />Background/Discussion <br /> <br />A Maintenance Mechanic position became available with the retirement of Lead Mechanic Bob Mahutga <br />on May 15, 2015. We went to market to fill this position with the intention of appointing the lead <br />mechanic position after this candidate was selected. <br /> <br />We received 22 applications for this position and eight candidates were interviewed. Following second <br />interviews and a shop tour with three candidates, staff recommends John Legatt for the position. <br /> <br />Mr. Legatt has been a diesel mechanic for over 10 years. He attended St. Cloud Technical College and is <br />certified as a Medium/Heavy Truck mechanic. He holds 7 ASE certifications, is a Certified DOT <br />Inspector, and is TIA Certified. <br /> <br />His past employment includes mechanical work at Anderson Trucking, Hoglund Bus, Deason Service, <br />and most recently, Knife River Corporation. <br /> <br />Mr. Legatt will be paid at step A of pay grade 6. All pay increases and benefits will be consistent with city <br />policy. <br /> <br />Financial Impact <br /> <br />This is a budgeted position. <br /> <br />Attachments <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />None. <br /> <br /> <br />
