<br />Request for Action <br /> <br /> <br />To Item Number <br /> <br />Mayor and City Council 4.3 <br />Agenda Section Meeting Date Prepared by <br /> <br />ConsentOctober 5, 2015Ron Nierenhausen, Chief of Police <br />Item Description Reviewed by <br />Hire Police Officer Cal Portner, City Administrator <br />Reviewed by <br />Lauren Wipper, Human Resource Representative <br /> <br />Action Requested <br /> <br />Approve, by motion, the hiring of Dylan Sandberg to the position of Police Officer effective October 6, <br />2015. <br /> <br />Background/Discussion <br /> <br />Due to resignations and an untimely death, the department currently has three police officer vacancies. <br />The department also anticipates a retirement later this year. <br /> <br />Staff interviewed nearly 90 viable candidates for the vacancies. Three finalists are currently undergoing <br />background checks following successful physical/psychological examinations. <br /> <br />The department was able to move quickly with the hiring of Dylan Sandberg as he is a Reserve Officer <br />with the department and recently had a background investigation done. Mr. Sandberg has had his <br />background updated and has completed the physical and psychological examinations. <br /> <br />Financial Impact <br /> <br />The positions are currently budgeted.
