• HousingMinnesota
1314414 ytamizigeotk.
The Campaign
The primary purpose of the HousingMinnesota campaign is to dramatically increase the preservation and
creation of affordable housing in Minnesota by raising public awareness, educating legislative candidates on.
housing issues, and translating the needs of people affected into postive policy reform. Our organization is
both non-profit and non-partisan. Key elements of the campaign include grassroots organizing,collabora-
tive membership, targeted public education, and the direct engagement of eight key community groups to
achieve concrete public policy changes and funding goals. These groups include the business community,
faith-based organizations,direct service providers and housing advocates,labor unions,education,local
government,Smart Growth proponents, and people directly affected by the shortage of affordable housing.
As the second year of our campaign comes to a close, our energy is focused on Homes For All,an event
that is planned to be the largest statewide housing convention in Minnesota history. On November 15,
2002,hundreds of Minnesotans will assemble to address housing issues and help determine future legislative
priorities. We believe that affordable housing at all income levels is key in the creation and sustainability of
stable families, healthy communities, and statewide economic prosperity.
The Collaboration
HousingMinnesota is a growing collaborative of more than 110 organizations who support the effort by
spreading our campaign messages and materials through their own established networks. These members,
along with the Minnesota Housing Partnership, which serves as the lead agency, play a critical role in
shaping the focus of the campaign as it continues to move forward. The diversity of the collaborative,
reflective of all eight key community groups, gives the campaign a strong base and helps to ensure that an
inclusive and constructive dialogue will occur. We believe that the direct and increased involvement of all of
housing's stakeholders is critical in building the broad support necessary for major policy changes in the
state of Minnesota.
The Funders
The HousingMinnesota campaign receives its lead funding from The Minneapolis Foundation. Other major
contributors include Minnesota Housing Finance Agency,Greater Minnesota Housing Fund,Andersen
Corporation,The McKnight Foundation,Greater Twin Cities United Way,Family Housing Fund,U.S.
Department of Housing and Urban Development,Marquette Financial Companies, and Robbins,Kaplan,
Miller&Ciresi L.L.P.Foundation for Education,Public Health and Social Justice.
