Arena Commission Minutes Page 5
,April 21,2015
The system would have allowed coaches to have access to all of the cameras for a fee
and parents could purchase the footage as well, but it would only be from the main
camera vantage.
Czech notes the Super Rink is working with a different video company--and that
the issue at the Elk River Arena may be revisited with the Cable Commission.
Commissioner Ballenger notes many tournaments are streamed live on the internet
under a pay per view system. He inquires if the MN Sports Network documents the
games.
Commissioner Cunningham confirms, however you need to give them the rights to
the footage.
9. Arena Manager's Update
Arena Manager Czech notes the Mighty Ducks (for the conversation of rinks using
R-22) grant has the support of the MN State Senate, however the House and the
Governor are not on board. If it passes,we would apply for one which would award
$50,000 to update plants that run on R22 or$200,000 to replace the plants (typically
with ammonia systems).The Governor believes the issue can be tabled until 2020;
however the changeovers are supposed to be completed by then.
A new ice plant would cost an estimated$2 million, however for us that would mean
updating to one plant instead of the two that we currently have which would
decrease our utility costs.
The"look out line"issue has been tabled with USA Hockey, but Czech suspects it
will not go away and will be revisited in a few years.
Upcoming Arena events include removal of the ice in the barn the week of April 20,
the AC Expos Gun Show April 25—26,the 25th Annual Spring Craft Show
May 2—3 and the 18th Annual Ice Show May 15—16.
Commissioner Cunningham notes the football season begins very early this year,
with the first game on August 24.The season has moved up so it can conclude for
playoffs at TCF Stadium.
Commissioner Ballenger adds the early football season makes it even more
important to get Elk River Youth Hockey's hours finalized as many of the Bantam
aged players also play football.
Chair Givens inquires if the Arena Commission will need a special meeting with
regards to a new facility after the Parks and Recreation Master Plan has been
approved and sent to the City Council.
Arena Manager Czech replies he doesn't believe so.
r~OUEIEO !
