The square occupied the northern
edge of the wedge-shaped block;the Blanchett Hotel was at the southern edge. The
space was not improved until the early twentieth century;photographs of 1917 show
that the square had a few large mature trees but it does not appear to have been formally
landscaped. A small wooden pavilion fronted on Main Street. The square is now a
surface parking lot.
Significance
Jackson Square was locally significant as the central public space in i and the
focus of many community celebrations and events. These functions Elk ceased Rver when it was
converted to a parking lot.
0
Elk River Historic Contexts and Phase II Downtown Commercial Area Study
63
