Above a deep cornice trimmed <br /> with a rusticated brownstone band, the upper story has six arched windows surrounded <br /> by a featureless cream brick façade of relatively recent date. <br /> Several historic photos show the building before its upper story modernization and <br /> could be of great use in restoration. <br /> Significance <br /> This building is locally significant as the second location of the Bank of Elk River,the <br /> first bank in Sherburne County.Established in 1885 with W.L.Babcock,W.H.Houlton <br /> • and Henry Castle as officers,the first bank was located on the north side of the railroad <br /> Elk River Historic Contexts and Phase II Downtown Commercial Area Study <br /> 59 <br />
