RIVER
FIRE
# Memorandum
c
REscuE
R,RE DEPARTMENj
To: Mayor and City Council
From: Aaron Surratt, Deputy Chief
Date: August 5, 2015
Subject: Capital SCBA Purchase
Included in the 2016 Capital Improvement Fund (CIP) is a$40,000 request to purchase additional
self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA). The additional SCBA units will be placed on front-line
response vehicles with the primary purpose of providing the driver/operator with respiratory
protection.
At the recent Sherburne County Chief's Meeting, it was brought to our attention that the Northeast
Sherburne Fire-Rescue Department (Baldwin Fire) is switching SCBA models, replacing a mixed
inventory of that consisted of eight Scott NxG7 air packs and bottles, the same model used by the
Elk River Fire Department (ERFD).
ERFD met with Northeast Sherburne and presented a tentative proposal to Baldwin Township to
purchase the department's used SCBA air packs and bottles for$17,600. The 8 air packs and 16
bottles are in great condition.
Staff is recommending purchasing the used SCBA air packs from Northeast Sherburne in 2015
which will result in savings of approximately $22,400. This meets our operational goals to continue
to add to our air pack inventory to ensure all of our firefighters have proper respiratory protection.
