Planning Commission Minutes <br />June 23, 2015 <br />Page 2 <br />,l. <br />Chair Johnson opened the public hearing. <br />Terry Nowak, applicant, stated that the two existing structures are in good repair. He stated <br />in order to build another structure he would have to tear them down, if the ordinance is not <br />approved. <br />There being no further comments, Chair Johnson closed the public hearing. <br />Motion by Commissioner Larson -Vito and seconded by Commissioner Thiel to <br />recommend approval of the request by Terrance Nowak for an ordinance <br />amendment to increase the number of accessory structures in the R1a Zoning <br />District. Motion carried 5 -0. <br />5.2a Request by the City of Elk River for a Land Use Amendment to change the <br />land use of a portion of Outlot F, Elk Path Business Center, owned by <br />Sherburne County, from Industrial to Public /Institutional, and a portion <br />changed from Public /Institutional to Industrial, Case No. LU 15 -04 <br />5.2b Request by the City of Elk River for a Zone Change to rezone a portion of <br />Outlot F, Elk Path Business Center, owned by Sherburne County, from R I c <br />Single Family Residential to Business Park, Case No. ZC 15 -04 <br />The staff report was presented by Zack Carlton for both items. Mr. Carlton noted that the <br />proposed changes will "clean up" the zoning and land use on the property for potential <br />future use as a data center. <br />Chair Johnson opened the public hearing. <br />Ricky Johnson, 13733 182nd Avenue NW, asked for clarification on what is planned for the <br />site. Mr. Carlton explained that the property owner is looking to attract a data center, similar <br />to the ones already in this area. <br />Jim Sletten, 18137 Ogden Street NW, stated that the Target data center is quiet, but the <br />United Healthcare data center at times sounds like an aircraft taking off. He stated that <br />when they have their windows open, it is very loud. <br />There being no further public comment, Chair Johnson closed the public hearing. <br />Motion by Commissioner Thiel and seconded by Commissioner Larson -Vito to <br />recommend approval of the request by the City of Elk River for a Land Use <br />Amendment to change the land use of a portion of Outlot F, Elk Path Business <br />Center, owned by Sherburne County, from Industrial to Public /Institutional, and a <br />portion changed from Public /Institutional to Industrial, Case No. LU 15 -04.
