Proclamation <br /> Designating August 27, 2015, as <br /> Elk River Municipal Utilities Day <br /> WHEREAS, the Elk River Power and Light Company was incorporated in June of 1915 <br /> and began providing electricity to the Village of Elk River in 1916; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Elk River Power and Light Company was purchased by the Village of Elk <br /> River on October 4, 1945; and <br /> WHEREAS, In 1949, the Water,Light,Power and Building Commission of the Village of <br /> Elk River became a municipal utility now known as the Elk River Municipal <br /> Utility (ERMU) by Minnesota Statutes 55 412.331-412.391,); and <br /> WHEREAS, we, the residents of Elk River,place high value on local control over <br /> community services and therefore have chosen to operate a community- <br /> owned,locally-controlled,not-for-profit electric utility; and <br /> WHEREAS, ERMU continues to provide our homes,businesses, and local government <br /> agencies with safe, reliable, and cost-effective electricity employing sound <br /> business practices designed to ensure value of service at not-for-profit rates; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, ERMU will celebrate their 100`''anniversary by hosting a community event <br /> on August 27, 2015, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Sherburne County Fairgrounds. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I,John Dietz,Mayor of Elk River do <br /> hereby proclaim Thursday,August 27, 2015, as Elk River Municipal Utilities Day; and invite <br /> our community to join in celebrating ERMU's century of service and future of growth. <br /> John J.
