Project Narrative — Morrell Companies Tax Abatement <br /> City of Elk River <br /> Background <br /> Morrell Companies is a family owned business which has been located in Elk River since 1962. Larry and <br /> Arlyce Morrell started the business as a common carrier trucking company,and after recognizing the <br /> growth potential of the business,opened an aggregate division in 1974. Throughout the years, <br /> numerous additional divisions were formed to haul concrete products, recycling material and heavy <br /> equipment. With this growth,the entire family became involved in the family business in a variety of <br /> capacities,and this involvement as allowed for continued growth and expansion. <br /> Morrell Companies was originally located on the corner of Jackson &School Street. In 1996,Morrell <br /> Companies built a 36,000 sq.ft.facility at their current location; 10752 171st Ave NW,without any <br /> assistance through businesses subsidies. This facility has provided them an even greater ability to serve <br /> their customers,while providing enough room for expansion. In the early 2000s,Todd,Terry and Trent <br /> Morrell transitioned into leadership positions within the company,with their mother and father <br /> stepping down to work in the company on a part time basis. Morrell Companies is now a full service <br /> carrier which offers a vast variety of standard and specialized transportation services. <br /> The current property is owned by Morrell Properties, LLC(a holding company),with Morrell Oversize <br /> Inc.,operating out of the facility. There are several other divisions of the entire organization which <br /> operate out of this facility. Recognizing the opportunity for growth, Morrell Oversize is looking to <br /> expand its operations onto the 4.08 acre lot adjacent to the current facility. <br /> Corporation/Partnership Description <br /> Scott Morrell, LLC(real estate entity)is owned By Terry and Renee Morrell <br /> Morrell Oversize, Inc. (business entity)is owned by Renee Morrell <br /> Project <br /> On March 16,2015,the Elk River EDA and City Council approved the purchase agreement for Morrell <br /> Oversize to expand their operation on a 4.08 acre lot in city owned Nature's Edge Business Center.Terry <br /> Morrell, is proposing to build a 13,824 square foot facility. The facility will provide a wash facility,light <br /> duty maintenance and office space for the growing company. The property will be owned by Scott <br /> Morrell, LLC(holding company). This expansion provides Morrell Oversize a huge opportunity for <br /> growth,creating new job opportunities for the Elk River community, and ensuring the long term success <br /> of Morrell Companies as a whole. <br /> Project Benefits <br /> Morrell Companies is a long-standing community business which has operated in the Elk River <br /> community for over 50 years; providing significant tax base, and well-paying jobs for the Elk River <br /> Community. Morrell Companies currently employ 105 people at an average hourly wage of$23/hr. Of <br /> these 105 FTE, 13 FTE are employed by Morrell Oversize with an average hourly wage of$27.94/hr, <br />
