Artz Citizen Advocacy Award. With outstanding leadership and tremendous dedication. <br /> Dave has been an integral part of establishing and preserving our parks and recreation <br /> opportunities in Elk River. <br /> Dave has served as the Parks and Recreation Commissioner since 1987 with seventeen of those <br /> years as the commission chair. With over 30 years of experience,he has been involved in <br /> numerous projects that have helped the Elk River park system grow exponentially. What was <br /> once fewer than 50 total acres of park land has now grown in a broad and diverse system of 44+ <br /> parks,44 paved trails,and 1000-acres of park land. <br /> As a very proactive leader in our community, he has spent countless hours of his free time to <br /> ensure that our citizens have a clean and safe environment to enjoy our parks. Due to the amount <br /> of time he spends cleaning and trying to improve our parks,many citizens in our community <br /> think Dave is a full time park employee. <br /> This past year. Dave was a critical pan in bringing Hockey Day Minnesota to the town of Elk <br /> River. This is a huge event where strong leadership and countless volunteer hours are needed. <br /> For his efforts, Star News named Dave "Newsmaker of the Year" for his service in making this <br /> day a great success and one that the community is very proud of. <br /> Dave's hands-on approach to the recreational programs from managing adult softball leagues and <br /> coaching youth sports, to mentoring Eagle scouts and developing new tennis leagues is <br /> refreshing. His passion and dedication to the community has impacted a countless amount of <br /> lives and it continues to do so today. <br /> In my opinion,there are few people more deserving of this recognition.
