Economic Development <br /> 2003 Annual Report <br /> • <br /> Marketing Events <br /> In October, the City of Elk River participated with the MN Department of Employment & <br /> Economic Development(DEED) in the recognition of MN Manufacturing&Technology <br /> Week The recognition event included tours of Cymbet Corporation and Marketech, <br /> followed by a luncheon/keynote speaker address at Elk River Country Club. Elk River <br /> was honored that DEED Commissioner Matt Kramer attended the event. In addition, a <br /> full-page advertisement was featured in the Elk River Star News thanking the list of local <br /> manufacturers for their contributions to the community.The Economic Development <br /> booth was also rotated in four local banks. The booth featured photos and a list of local <br /> manufacturers. <br /> In November, the City of Elk River participated as a co-sponsor of the MN Real Estate <br /> Journal New Urbanism and Redevelopment conference.The conference focused on new <br /> urbanism design, redevelopment trends and opportunities and challenges faced when <br /> considering the development of a new project in a community. The Director of <br /> Economic Development was a presenter highlighting the Elk River Downtown <br /> Revitalization Project. Participation in the event was a strategy for building relationships <br /> with key accounts including, Colliers-Towle, Opus NW, CRESA Partners, Northco, <br /> United Properties, Cushman &Wakefield, Welsh Companies, Ryan Companies and <br /> Kraus-Anderson. <br /> Energy City Marketing <br /> • Staff coordinated the Rogers High School Open House event for Energy City. The high <br /> school was recognized as a high-performance and Energy City's 2003 demonstration site. <br /> New Energy City brochures (informal and formal) were designed in 2003 as well as the <br /> Energy City Web site. The informal brochure and Web site were updated several times <br /> in 2003. <br /> Economic Development Web Page <br /> Updates were made throughout 2003 to the Economic Development page of the City's <br /> Web site located at www.ci.elk-river.mn.us. A link was added to the City's home page <br /> for Industrial Sites information. The Economic Development Web page includes: <br /> • Site Location Assistance (listing of Business Park and Industrial land details) <br /> • Business Financing Information <br /> • Business Incubator Program <br /> • Downtown Redevelopment Activities <br /> • Housing Rehabilitation and Assistance Referrals <br /> • Energy City <br /> • Community Profile <br /> • Economic Development Newsletter <br /> Economic Development Micro Loans <br /> The EDA approved one new loan application in 2003. A $50,000 loan was provided to <br /> Lake Assault Custom Boats for the purchase of machinery and equipment necessary to <br /> • begin operations in Elk River. The company operates within the Decker Building located <br /> on East Highway 10. The loan is structured as a participation loan with The Bank of Elk <br />
