The community needs more high- quality athletic facilities, and the city and <br />school district should continue to work together to provide these facilities. <br />Needs for athletic facilities include: <br />Artificial turf fields <br />• Signature baseball field <br />• Lighting <br />• Ice Arena improvements <br />• Indoor field house <br />Speciality Recreation <br />Elk River parks offer facilities for specialty athletics that few other cities offer. The <br />city's high - quality mountain biking, biathlon, and cross country skiing trails are <br />some of the best in the state and are a destination for residents and visitors. <br />Pinewood Golf Course has historically provided opportunities for affordable golf <br />on a 9 -hole executive course. During the master planning process, Pinewood <br />Golf Course was not open to the public. Through the planning process, some <br />residents expressed a strong desire to retain golf as part of the city's recreation <br />offerings.
