The standards are based on recommendations by the National Recreation and Park Association, an organization
of parks and recreation experts and professionals who have examined recreation and athletic facilities throughout the
nation, adjusted their findings to account for regional differences, and then provided guidelines based on population.
It is important to remember these standards are minimums and local conditions may necessitate provision of additional
facilities. A community may also choose to provide additional fields or facilities based on the desires of that community.
A surplus or deficit does not automatically mean the need to remove or add facilities.
