Chapter 4 <br />Framework for the Future <br />Tomorrow’s Parks <br />35 City of Elk River - Parks and Recreation Master Plan <br />Introduction <br />The findings of the needs assessment show that the City of Elk River is working <br />hard to develop and maintain a great park and recreation system. The community <br />surveys indicate that residents recognize the importance of parks and generally <br />support the current direction the system is going. Finally, the city offers a wide <br />range of recreation opportunities, from day camps for kids to solitary hikes in the <br />woods. Elk River’s park system provides places to play, ski, compete, or just sit and <br />watch the river. <br />Elk River is a growing and changing community, which means the city has to have <br />a plan to ensure that the parks and recreation system continues to meet the needs <br />of its residents in the future. New parks and facilities will be needed, current parks <br />will need upgrades, trail expansion and ongoing maintenance will continue, and <br />programs must adapt to evolving community interests. <br />Elk River’s Powered by Nature brand is derived in part from the city’s connections <br />to the outdoors but also by where the heart is powered by its nature. This plan sets <br />out directions to ensure that Powered by Nature accurately represents the city and <br />its residents for years to come.
