A hard copy of the plan was mailed to City
Council and Commission members on May 8.
The Commission has provided guidance and input on the plan's content throughout the entire master
plan process. A total of nine work sessions has been devoted to the Parks and Recreation Master Plan
during the past year. The last work session was held March 18, 2015. This is in addition to the work
sessions held this past July and August to discuss signature park concept designs for Orono Park and
Bailey Point Nature Preserve. The signature park concepts are included in the master plan document.
In addition to the Parks and Recreation Commission meetings, an extensive public outreach effort
engaged over 850 residents and stakeholders throughout the process. This public outreach process
included:
• Athletic Association focus group session held on March 27, 2014.
• Community Open Houses on June 25, 2014, and August 20, 2014.
• A statistically valid survey mailed in the Spring of 2014 with nearly 400 respondents.
• Online survey in Summer 2014 with over 300 participants responding.
• A public art visioning session held on May 5, 2014.
Once City Council completes their review, formal approval will be added to a regular meeting agenda.
Financial Impact
Cost estimates for the major park projects referred to as vision projects are listed in the Parks and
Recreation Master Plan.
