That is my job as a legislator. I represent the interests of
those I serve.

In the case of the Buffalo Community Center, I was approached by the city of Buffalo, the
YMCA, School District #877, and the Buffalo Hospital, who had collaborated in the
developmenz of a plan for the community center. They asked if I would sponsor legislation on
their behalf', and that is how House File 2625 came to be. Unfortunately for Buffalo, the
proposal was not included in the House Bonding Bill that was recently assembled.

I am aware that Elk River does not currently have a community center, but I have never been
approached by local officials or residents interested in securing state funding for such a project.
In yom' e-mail you ask me to author a bill to request funding for a center in Elk River,
Unfortunately, the deadline for such legislation during the 2000 session has passed. However, if
you are working on developing plans for a community center in Elk River for which you would
like state assistance, I would be interested in hearing more about the project over the interim with
the possibility of authoring legislation during the 2001 session.

Thank you again for contacting me about this issue. Please be in touch if you working on plans
for a local community center.

State Representative

3~__2~ Aadland Ave. NE Buffalo.
