<br /> City of Elk River <br />Sustainable Community Award <br /> <br />The City of Elk River Sustainable Community Award is a newly-created opportunity to recognize Elk River <br />residents, businesses, and organizations for their sustainable contributions and commitments to Energy City. <br />Residents, businesses, and organizations from all areas of Elk River are eligible. <br /> <br />The Council and Mayor will honor the selected award recipients at a regular City Council meeting each quarter, as <br />nominations are received, February, May, August, and November. The Energy City Commission will act as the <br />selection committee. <br /> <br />Eligibility and Criteria for the Award <br />The City of Elk River Sustainable Community Award nominee should be committed to representing the “Powered <br />by Nature” and “Energy City” themes of the City of Elk River through voluntary efforts in one or more of the <br />following categories: <br /> <br /> <br />Increase in Recycling and/or Organics Recycling <br /> <br /> <br />Energy Efficiency and/or Renewable Energy <br /> <br /> <br />Green Space, Native Vegetation, Invasive Species Control, and/or Wildlife Habitat Improvements <br /> <br /> <br />Clean Transportation <br /> <br /> <br />Water Quality Improvements and/or Stormwater BMPs <br /> <br /> <br />Sustainability Education and/or Outreach <br />The nominee will be considered based on initiative and good work achieved through the contribution. Nominations <br />should be made for direct, hands-on, efforts. Nominees may be nominated by an individual, agency, corporation, or <br />organization. The work completed should demonstrate a benefit to the City of Elk River. <br /> <br />Tips for Completing the Nomination Form <br />Your essay may want to address one or more questions, such as: <br /> <br /> <br />How many hours does the nominee work or volunteer towards sustainability per month? <br /> <br /> <br />Describe the need for the sustainability effort(s). <br /> <br /> <br />Did the nominee start a new program, use new methods to solve problems, initiate activities, or build <br />collaboration with other organizations? Explain. <br /> <br /> <br />Describe the impact the nominee’s service made to the community. <br /> <br />You are encouraged to interview your nominee or get a quote from them on their thoughts about sustainability, and <br />giving back to their community. <br /> <br />Because this award program is ongoing, there is no deadline for submitting nominations.
