An important feature of the Park Plan is the integration of existing and proposed recreation areas through the use of a trail system. The trail system provides a series of loops through the city. This loop arrangement is designed to provide access from residential neighborhoods to the park system with a minimum of traffic conflict with motorized vehicles. Portions of the trail system will be developed in conjunction with the expansion and development of various transportation corridors.Burlington Northern Railroad bed The backbone of the trails system is the abandoned g which runs in a north-south direction from the central business district. Acquisition of the railroad bed is a goal of the City since it is an important link to the integrated trail system.P An important link in the trail system is the trail parallel to the Mississippi River. The Mississippi River trail will provide an east-west access along the City's southern boundary.
