VII-3 C. CURRENT STATUS The City is endowed with significant recreational assets in the form of rivers and lakes. " The Mississippi River has long stretches of undeveloped land along its shores. This land is conducive to development into parkland and trails for active and passive s recreational use Also, Elk River north of Highway 10 and Lake Orono south of i Highway 10 provide opportunities for active and passive water related recreation. The following is a summary of parks and associated facilities located within the City (Figure 7-A). ,'„,'4'',. ,, r. 1. Wilderness Park Wilderness Park is approximately 160 acres of undeveloped land recently acquired by the City. .� 2 Orono Park Orono Park is approximately 17 acres and has numerous facilities including beach, softball field, volley ball court, children's playground equipment, horseshoe pits, and a public boat launch. 3. Ridgewood Park Ridgewood Park is approximately 5 acres and is partially developed as a grass field. The City currently has plans to install children's playground equipment and picnic tables. 4. Lions Park Lions Park is approximately 20 acres and has numerous facilities 4 including children's playground equipment, sand area,basketball court, tennis courts, - and horseshoe pits. The City has plans for adding a softball field and an ice rink with a warming house. 5. Jackson/Main Street. This park is approximately 1/2 acre and serves as the town square. It is a passive recreation area with picnic tables. 6. Main Street and Fourth. This is approximately one acre of grass area maintained by - the City. It has no facilities on it. 7. Former City Dump. This is an 80 acre parcel which previously served as the city dump. It is currently undeveloped and is designated for future park use. 8. School Campus. The school campus is approximately 145 acres and is owned and controlled by the School District Number 728. 9. Babcock State Park This is a 1/2 acre parcel on the south side of Highway 10 between the central business district and Highway 101. It serves as a wayside rest area and has picnic tables and public access to the Mississippi River.
