4 <br /> VII-3 <br /> • C. CURRENT STATUS <br /> The City is endowed with significant recreational assets in the form of rivers and lakes. <br /> The Mississippi River has long stretches of undeveloped land along its shores. This <br /> land is conducive to development into parkland and trails for active and passive <br /> recreational use. Also, Elk River north of Highway 10 and Lake Orono south of <br /> Highway 10,provide opportunities for active and passive water related recreation. <br /> The following is a summary of parks and associated facilities located within the City <br /> (Figure 7-A). <br /> 1. Woodland Trails. Woodland Trails is approximately 160 acres of undeveloped land <br /> recently acquired by the City. <br /> 2. Orono Park Orono Park is approximately 17 acres and has numerous facilities <br /> including beach, softball field, volley ball court, children's playground equipment, <br /> horseshoe pits, and a public boat launch. <br /> 3. Ridgewood Park Ridgewood Park is approximately 5 acres and is partially <br /> • developed as a grass field. The City currently has plans to install children's playground <br /> equipment and picnic tables. <br /> 4. Lions Park Lions Park is approximately 34 acres and has numerous facilities <br /> including children's playground equipment,sand area,basketball court, and horseshoe <br /> pits. The City has plans for adding an ice rink with a warming house, and an activity <br /> field. <br /> 5. Jackson/Main Street. This park is approximately 1/2 acre and serves as the town <br /> square. It is a passive recreation area with picnic tables. <br /> 6. Main Street and Fourth. This is approximately one acre of grass area maintained by <br /> the City. It has no facilities on it. <br /> 7. Hillside Park. This is an 80 acre parcel which previously served as the city dump. It <br /> is currently undeveloped and is designated for future park use. <br /> 8. School Campus. The school campus is approximately 145 acres and is owned and <br /> controlled by the Independent School District Number 728. <br /> 9. Babcock State Park This is a 1/2 acre parcel on the south side of Highway 10 between <br /> the Central Business District and Highway 101. It serves as a wayside rest area and has <br /> • picnic tables and public access to the Mississippi River. <br />
