The exhibit opens on
• April 4, at the Sherburne County Historical Society, in Becker. And
is on view Monday through Friday 9 am to 4 pm, through May 8.
Over forty reproductions of photographs, maps, and etchings from the
collections of the Minnesota Historical Society provide a glimpse into
the leisure-time settings and activities of city-dwellers in an age before
the automobile changed recreation. Park planning, like clothing and
architecture has had its fads and fashions. During the nineteenth
century a "natural" look replaced the formal, "classical" style of
• landscape design popular in earlier decades. Meandering pathways,
circular pools, and scenic vistas simulated a rural setting within the
city. Today, the "modern" look of concrete has come into style, reflecting
changes in our attitudes and activities. The exhibit explores these changes
in public taste and landscape design through photographs and etchings
dating from the turn of the century.
School and other groups are always welcome. To arrange a visit by your group,
please call 261-4550, 253-6623, 441-1880. There is no charge to visit the
museum.
•
•

8112.COMO PARK '- Ba+r NOOSE And PArlpMit ` r.'.. • 1 • l -a
