The city would obtain an additional 1 .5 miles of ski <br /> trails which would be very scenic and found primarily in the <br /> woods. (Trails in the woods do not experience as drastic of <br /> a temperature change as those trails found in the open. This <br /> would allow these trails to maintain more uniform snow <br /> conditions. <br /> 2. Provide a better trail system for all skiers. With <br /> the specified goals the city would have a trail system <br /> consisting of: 67% Easy Trails <br /> 28% Moderate Trails . • <br /> 5% Difficult Trails <br /> 3. Improved trail conditions and safety through the <br /> following activities. <br /> A. Experienced skiers would be skiing the trail <br /> approximately 5 days a week. These skiers would remove <br /> dangerous obstacles and close trails when necessary. <br /> (Compared to average skiers an experience skier is <br /> significantly less likely to be injured when coming upon a <br /> dangerous condition. ) <br /> B. Provide trial maintenance throughout the ski <br /> season. In the past the Elk River High School Ski Team has <br /> provided approximately 150 hours of trail maintenance <br /> annually. <br /> C. Clearly designating dangers and trail <br /> difficulty on maps and signs. <br /> 4. The Elk River High School Ski Team promotes skiing <br /> in Elk River and encourages others to enjoy our City Ski <br /> Trail System! ! <br />
