• r
Sagstetter asked if there were energy efficiency guidelines in place for the Nature's
Edge Business Center. Westgaard stated that the micro loan program has some
energy efficiency guidelines but agrees that energy efficiency guidelines can be added
into more programs, such as TIFs,in either the form of recommendations or
requirements.Westgaard also suggested that TIF projects could act as a
demonstration site for Energy City.
Rydberg suggested that as new buildings with energy efficient design are constructed
in Elk River, that the city should go to the media to get the word out.
Sagstetter suggested that department budgets add an"energy efficiency" budget for
projects throughout the year. Mroz suggested that they include a "sustainability"
budget to include projects from the Action Plan, High 5 program, and GreenStep
Cities.Westgaard stated that at least one annual objective needs to include and
energy efficiency upgrade for each department annually. Sayler added that the
commission may need to get City Council on board first as the annual budget may
need to increase slightly overall in order to accommodate for sustainable projects but
the payback will make the increase obsolete.
Rydberg stated that City Hall should be encouraged to achieve the High 5 third level
so that we can act as a demonstration site for the program. Curtis suggested adding
signage to the lobby to educate the public.
Steinbeck added that the city should show measurements to the public. Sagstetter
suggested that we post annual and 10-year completion checklists for the Action Plan.
6.
