State Law sets up priorities for water use permits, and the City's water supply well
will take priority over any irrigation well used by the District. The DNR would have to
require that any use of the old irrigation well be reduced to the point where it does not
interfere with any public water supply system well.
In light of these facts, we urge the District to work closely with the City of Elk River in deciding
how to irrigate its grounds. Based on our current understanding of the situation, it is unlikely that
the DNR could approve a water use permit that would meet the District's lawn irrigation needs.
If you have any questions about this matter or if you need assistance in working with the City,
please contact Area Hydrologist Roger Stradal at 320-255-4279 (ext. 233).
Sincerel ,
Dale E.
