The biggest shift will be from a large number of people in
the young adult and middle aged groups to a proportionately larger number of people in the middle
aged and older age groups.
D By the year 2000,30 percent of Minnesota's population will be between the ages of 35 and 54,a
51 percent increase over the number of people in that age group in 1986.
D By contrast,27 percent of Minnesota's population will be between the ages of 15 and 34,a 14 per-
cent decrease from the number of people in that age group in 1986.
Activity Projections
The projected growth in Minnesota's population and the shift of a larger segment of the population
to an older age group is expected to result in a ten percent increase in outdoor recreation time to a
total of 930.9 million hours by the year 2000.
• Just as in 1985,walking/hiking is again the These activities are projected to receive the
most popular activity.
