The t[oal is to improve the Roseville City Cch- [er area, which includes City Hall, the ity's skating center, a fire station and the ublic works building. The project could include a community nter featuring meeting rooms, adult edu- qation programs and a day care center as ~vell as a recreation center with a pool, asketball court and fitness room, said "It would be a focal point for the city of Roseville," Wietecki said. "It would create a spot where you could say 'Hey, this is where I go in Roseville for city govern- ment and community functions.'" In addition, the center might have a town square or courtyard area featuring a fountain, sculpture garden, bandstand or walking area, said Dennis Welsch, the city's community development director. A post office branch and concession area also are being considered. Other possibilities the group will present for the area include apartments and a pub- lic safety center, housing the city's police and fire departments, Wietecki said. Welsch said the city would work with the vacant land already on the property bound- ed by County Road C, Lexington Avenue, Woodhill Drive and Howard Johnson Park. about 18 months ago after: a survey revealed that Roseville citizens ~ wanted more of a recreation and community center. "We didn't need any more commercial retail space in Roseville,' Wietecki said. The project could cost in the millions and take 25 to 35 years to build, he said. But another task force likely would have to take on the jOb of seeing the center to its completion. "We think our job is 'done," Wietecki said. The work session, postponed after the death of former Mayor Vernon Johnson, will be held at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall, 2660 Civic Center Drive.
