2. Grant Programs
<br /> There are several grant programs which provide significant amounts of money for
<br /> parks and trails. These include (1) the DNR Outdoor Recreation Grant Program III
<br /> (LAWCON- Land and Water Conservation Fund), (2) ISTEA (Intermodal Surface
<br /> Transportation Efficiency Act), and (3) LCMR (Legislative Commission on
<br /> Minnesota Resources).
<br /> 3. Taxes
<br /> As park and trail development proceeds in future years, it may be necessary to
<br /> use tax revenues to pay for some of the expenses.
<br /> 4. User Fees
<br /> User fees may include park entrance fees, activity fees, etc.
<br /> 5. Volunteer Assistance
<br /> Although not actually a source of funds, volunteers can reduce the operational
<br /> costs of parks and trails by performing a wide variety of activities such as making
<br /> signs, mowing grass, painting buildings, etc.
<br /> 6. Other Sources of Funds
<br /> Other possibilities include gifts, bequests, fund-raising events, etc.
