Item D.5
STAFF REPORT
OCTOBER 1997
• MICHELE BERGH
STAFFING
I am currently working on staffing our Open Gyms for Fall/Winter. It appears we have
returning employees and the shifts will easily be covered. In two weeks I will need to start
staffing Warming Houses as well. I anticipate the need for recruiting additional staff as many
of last year's employees are away at college.
PROGRAMS
Intramural Volleyball has begun and has 9 teams.
The minor kinks have been worked out of our Gymnastics program and everything seems to
be running smoothly now. We have also built a relationship with someone on our community
who has advanced training and is offering an Advanced Gymnastics class. This has been a
challenge for us to come to an understanding regarding payment, policies, etc. His program is
quite popular and we look forward to continuing and improving this relationship.
Our new program,Indoor Soccer, for ages 4-6 is a big success. We use Koosh products for
safety and incorporate sportsmanship into the program so it is appropriate for this age group.
We needed to add a class in Elk River and both of those,as well as the class in Rogers, are full.
• We have also added Friday Open Gyms for Grades 5-9 in both Elk River and Ro g ers.
We will also be encouraging more 9th graders to participate in Intramural Basketball. I would
like to be able to run a 9th/10th grade league and an 11th/12th grade league.
The Otsego Family Hayride has over 60 families registered. It looks like this event will, once
again,be a success!
I am also hoping to schedule a meeting with Jeff and city of Rogers to discuss programming
possibilities when the new school opens in'98.
We are planning the Winter session (Jan-Mar)now(see back for a list of anticipated offerings).
YOUTH INITIATIVES
We recently designed a newsletter for distribution that has been well received. We are hoping
to generate additional interest in this process. I am hoping that the additional Open Gyms
and the Floor Hockey League will be two more programs to help serve the youth in the area.
•
