Additional
funds that could be allocated to the Arts Council would be helpful.

The Arts council has been active this year with the Strings
for Youth Program, showing the photos from "The Heritage Festival"
in downtown Minneapolis, the national juried art show, other art
shows, and participation in the planning for "Art Soup," the event
being planned by 2001 Arts for next summer.

We have just hired a new Director who will be starting next
Week. I had resigned that position earlier in the year, but along
with other board members have kept the office going until the
proper person had been found. Our new director is Marlys Gould
Olson. Marlys is an Elk River resident, and a Lawyer working part
time as a consultant.

We hope that the City will continue to provide funding for our
programs in 1999. Increased opportunities through the Central
Minnesota Arts Board from increased state funding will continue to
help us only if we are able to increase our matching funds. Any
funds beyond the current $5,000 that you can make available to us
will be put to good use in promoting Elk River, raising matching
funds from other sources, and in serving our community.

If you have any questions, I can be reached during the day at
576-9040.

Very truly yours,

David V. Beauvais
Executive Director
