F <br /> P. <br /> • <br /> City of " <br /> Elk ,. <br /> P.(lj' ...., <br /> Memorandum <br /> River <br /> To: Parks and Recreation Commission <br /> From: Michael Hecker,Parks and Recreation Director <br /> Date: February 12,2014 <br /> Subject: Director's Report <br /> This report is a monthly highlight of our Department's activities informing the Commission on <br /> items related to collaborations, strategic planning,staff changes/ development,and park operations <br /> Houlton Farm Planning Committee <br /> The first meeting of the Houlton Farm Planning Committee took place on Wednesday,January 28. <br /> It was decided that the Committee would regularly meet on the last Monday of each month at 5:30 <br /> pm. The next meeting will be Monday,February 23. Both the FMR and the TPL will be attending <br /> the meeting to discuss agenda items such as the conservation plan and hunting. <br /> Rivers Edge Commons Park Expansion <br /> Staff plans to meet with HKGi on February 12 to discuss design concepts incorporating the <br /> expanded park area into the adjacent plaza,additional seating space,retaining walls and stabilization <br /> of the sloped planting area between he parking terraces. Storm water enhancements will also be <br /> discussed. We hope to have concepts for the Commission to review at the March meeting. <br /> Annual Volunteer Recognition Program <br /> A reminder that the annual Volunteer Recognition Program has been scheduled for Thursday, <br /> March 5,2015 at Rockwood's. I hope all Commission members will attend. <br /> Skate Park and Park Improvement Fund. <br /> A budget of$35,000 was approved for skate park design in the Park Improvement Fund. <br /> Recreation Manager Steve Benoit will be heading this project with a completion date slated for this <br /> late summer. <br /> Wayfinding Project <br /> City Council provided staff direction with the Wayfinding Program. The gateway signage that the <br /> Council decided for wayfinding is shown as Concept 2B in the wayfinding attachment. The <br /> Wayfinding Program will help tie a consistent theme to all signage throughout the city and the city's <br /> park system.
